4 Home Improvement Ideas Before Summer

Homeowners tend to prioritize home improvements aimed toward increasing curb appeal, strengthening the exteriors, or increasing energy efficiency. However, consider projects promoting health and relaxation too; if the project satisfies both groups, then so much the better.

Here are our recommended home improvements that will help make your home healthier and more relaxed this summer.

1.       Replacement windows – While window replacement can certainly boost your home’s curb appeal, it also has several hidden benefits, like ventilation. Since most of us spend 90% of our time inside indoor environments, this makes us vulnerable to inhaling VOCs, mold spores, and other indoor air pollutants. Choosing ventilation-optimized replacement windows like bay windows or casement windows and regularly opening them for about 15 minutes a day makes a significant improvement to your home’s indoor air quality. Also, choosing energy-efficient windows ensure comfortable indoor temperatures without consuming energy.

2.       Upgrade your insulation – Concurrent with energy-efficient windows, consider upgrading your home’s insulation, especially if your walls and attic have traditional sheet insulation, which can’t be installed in tight corners and gaps. A blown-in insulation replacement increases your home’s energy efficiency, making your indoors more comfortable—especially on those hot, hot days!

3.       Install a hot tub – It may sound like a luxury, but a hot tub is a home improvement with several health benefits. Soaking in a hot tub after a day’s work can improve your sleep patterns, reduce joint inflammation, and even regulate your blood pressure. We recommend having a door installation that provides direct access to your bedroom so you can go straight to sleep after a good soak.

4.       Ambient lighting – With a long day spent staring at computer screens, the last thing you need is a bedroom with harsh lighting. Consider switching out the lights in your bedroom to a warmer shade, perhaps with an electronically-controlled dimmer so you can rest your eyes and later go to sleep without needing to get up to turn off the light.
